19th Century Slate Terrestrial Globe

Rare slate terrestrial globe dating to the late 19th century. Globes coated with slating material were produced in the 19th and early 20th centuries as educational aids for the study of geography. Students practiced drawing maps in chalk on the surface.

This globe has an unusually beautiful iron base with claw feet. The slate does have damage as noted in the photos. There is cracking at the top and base of the globe with some missing slate. Also a couple spots of wear. It measures 20" tall, approx. 12-1/2" wide, with a circumference of 39."

In spite of its damage, it is a truly unusual and beautiful globe.
