Fabulous late 19th century schoolhouse/slave clock acquired in France. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, slave clocks were widely used throughout public buildings and business offices, and their remote operation was regulated by electrical signals sent by a centralized master clock.
The clock is solid wood with its original pale green and white paint which is peeling and chippy. It measures 14" in diameter and 3-3/4" deep. Roman numerals with the company name and "Made in France." Glass face in tact.
I have left the original mechanisms on the back to indicate its age and authenticity. If you would like to make this a "working" clock, you could take it to a clock repair shop and have a battery put in.
A rare and wonderful old French schoolhouse clock!
