This Victorian hoof pin cushion is a real curiousity piece. It was common to use forms of taxidermy in the Victorian era. In fact, the second half of the nineteenth century saw the interest in collecting natural history specimens reach new heights, and by about 1880 every town and village had its own professional taxidermy establishment. This hoof/cushion measures 5" long 4" wide and 3-1/2" tall. It is stuffed with straw or horse hair and trimmed with a metallic thread ribbon with a metallic thread tassel. Overall nice condition with some tears in the canvas fabric.
