19th Century Covered Vegetable Bowl ~ Minton, England
This amazing covered vegetable dish dates to 1871. It is made by Minton, England and has the most beautiful colors, designs and logos. The lid has a "unicorn-looking" animal and reads, "APERTO VIVERE VOTO." There are also two logos on the dish. The handles have a lovely leaf motif. The dish measures 7" tall to the top of the handle. 12-3/4" from side handle-to-handle. It is a nice, large size. This is not for the perfectionist as there are some hairline cracks and crazing. Personally, those imperfections are what attracted me to this very early and elegant piece. The date mark is 1871.
There is a second dish available that also has crazing and hairline cracks. It is has the exact colors as this one. It dates to 1862.
