Large Vintage Wood/Tole Chandelier ~ Stanford Court Hotel
Photos don't do justice to this most interesting chandelier from the Stanford Court Hotel, the most luxurious hotel in San Francisco sitting where the Big Four railroad millionaire, Leland Stanford's luxury Nob Hill mansion once stood.
Most likely Italian in origin, this chandelier consists of a wooden center with metal/iron arms and bobeches. It measures 3 ft. by 3 ft. wide and approx. 26" tall. It has 8 light sockets. Pretty off-white color with gold detail. This fixture is not for the perfectionist. It shows signs of age from years of use such as areas of rust and paint wear. Some of candle sockets covers tilt ever-so-slightly and can be professionally bent if desired. There are "leaf sprigs" at the top with glass florettes. There are two missing sprigs. The chandelier is in working order. A great eye-catching piece from a luxurious San Francisco hotel!
Quite an unusual piece of old hotel history. This fixture most likely dates to the 1940's.
