1940s Framed Nude Watercolor by Listed, Herbert Buel, Bohemian Club, San Francisco Exhibition
Collectible c. 1940s framed watercolor by local San Francisco artist, Herbert Buel (1915-1984).
Buel was a prolific watercolorist for fifty years. He often selected Bay Area subject matter near his home in San Francisco, but also painted in Hawaii, Mexico and Europe. The majority of his works were produced on location and were painted with transparent watercolors. He was a founding member of the West Coast Watercolor Society and became president of that organization in 1974. He also illustrated a number of children’s books, including The Shy Stegosaurus of Cricket Creek by Evelyn Sibley Lampman in 1955.
This lovely watercolor was on exhibit at the famous Bohemian Club in San Francisco. All of the documentation is on the back, as depicted in the photos.
The frame measures 20-1/2" by 17-1/4". Excellent condition.
A special watercolor, notably to Buel and Bay Area fans.
