19th C. French Enameled Porcelain Portrait Snuff Box
Rare and elegant 19th century French enameled porcelain portrait snuff box.
This amazing box looks quite like an 18th century Hanau box. The oval box is in gilt and red enamel on a fine guilloche pattern with parallel streaks. The border is embellished with white enamel drops and green leaves.
The portrait features a woman in a blue dress surrounded by white enamel drops that imitate gems. The sides of the box also feature panels of red enamel guilloche, which are interspaced with leaf garlands in green enamel.
The hinged box opens to a hand-painted floral pattern resembling Limoges. It measures a bit over 3-1/4" long by 2" wide and approx. 1-1/4" tall.
It's in excellent condition. There are some areas of white enamel drops missing and a very small area roughness on the base from factory glaze. The box is unmarked.
A truly exceptional piece!
