Antique French Mother of Pearl Handled Opera Glasses
Exceptional pair of antique French mother of pearl opera or theatre glasses, made by Mar Neil, Paris, in the late 19th century.
By the second half of the 19th century, these fine binoculars had become essential fashion accessories for theatre goers. Given as gifts and tributes, they exhibited fine craftsmanship such as this pair.
The pair has a retractable mother of pearl handle. The handle has a small area of mother of pearl loss as noted in the photos. The middle of the frame has a monogrammed "A" and the manufacturers name is on the eyepieces.
They measure 4" wide and expand to 2-1/2" tall. The handle is 4" long.
Not only used for viewing, these would look great placed on top of a stack of your favorite books for a divine display!
