Gorgeous antique French impressionist oil on board depicting a view of Lake Annecy in the French Alps. The painting is by French artist, Jules Viennet.
Jules Viennet (1851-19..), a French sculptor and painter of the Ecole Française was born in Arbois, in the French Jura region. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris with the famous sculptors and teachers Auguste Dumont and Max Claudet. Viennet had a studio in the Place Delille and then in the Avenue Charras in Clermont-Ferrand, in the Auvergne region of France, as listed in the Annuaire de la Curiosité et des Beaux-Art. Starting in 1873 he regularly exhibited at the famous Salon in Paris. In addition to his participation in the Parisian exhibitions, he also exhibited during the 1890’s -1920’s in Clermont-Ferrand at the “Arvernia” and at the “Exposition Auvergnate des Beaux-Arts et des Arts appliqués”.
The painting has the most gorgeous colors and is ethereal in nature. Aside from the lovely lake, there is a village with people in the background.
The gilt wood frame measures 15-3/8" by 11-1/2". It's signed by the artist in the lower right hand corner. The back of the painting written on the back, “Le Lac d’Annecy. J. Viennet à ses amis Mourière”.
It's in excellent condition with some small scratches on one of the trees and some tiny holes around the edges where the artist pinned to a drawing board or wall.
A superb antique French painting by a fabulous French artist!
