Antique Whitby Jet Sterling Silver Buckle Inlay Bracelet

Beautiful c. 1890s Whitby jet expandable bracelet with a sterling silver buckle design.

The town of Whitby was the primary source of jet jewelry that became a court necessity when Prince Albert died unexpectedly. Queen Victoria would allow no color jewelry other than black in her presence. Jet then became an object of fashion for the populace:--creating a need and source of income for the town of Whitby and English jewelers.

This most unique bracelet consists of faceted links that lead all the way around to the front where there is a sterling silver buckle motif.

Connecting it all together is two rows of expandable elastic to fit well on just about any wrist. The widest part of the center is a wee bit over 1-1/4". The links are 3/4" wide. Excellent condition.

A beautiful piece of Whitby jet jewelry!
