Georgian 14K Gold/Silver Natural Sapphire Rose Cut Diamond Ring w/ Hidden Moonstone Compartment
Extremely rare example of a c. 1810-30s Georgian ring featuring a natural sapphire surrounded by old rose cut diamonds set in 14K yellow gold and silver. One of the most beautiful rings I've ever seen.
This astounding ring is has so many bells and whistles aside from its age. One of the really unique things is that there is a hidden compartment in the back with a moonstone. This would have been for the wearer to hold a keepsake such as hair. Small ring compartments may have held other secrets besides hair such as herbs, or something more sinister, are mentioned in ancient texts.
The pale blue sapphire measures approx. 6.6 mm by 5.7 mm and is surrounded by awesome rose cut diamonds. The gold shank/shoulders have an awesome openwork design in 14K yellow gold. Each side has a rose cut diamond.
The width of the front is approx. 15.22 mm. Ring is a US size 9 and is sizeable. Total weight is 7.37 grams.
This is one of the most beautiful rings I've ever acquired, and sure to be a treasure for the new owner.
Our rings come ready for gift-giving in velvet presentation boxes. Box in photos not included.
