Grand Georgian English Old Sheffield Plate 20" Meat / Food Domed Cover with Armorial c. 1810

A magnificent and Georgian grand old Sheffield plate meat or food dome by maker Robert Carman of Sheffield. The piece dates between 1810-1820.

The fabulous handle is beautifully hand chased. The front is engraved with a family armorial crest in Latin "Virtus Invidiae Scopus"--translated, "Excellence is the Target of Envy".  

This monumental dome measures 20" long by 15-1/4" wide and stands approx. 12" tall to the top of the handle. It weighs close to 9 pounds. Superb condition with a small dent on the side. Two small areas of silver loss on the back.

Hallmarked on the inside for Robert Carman, Sheffield.
