Rare Large 1920s 19" San Diego Swimming Trophy
This magnificent trophy is from a private collection that I recently acquired.
It features a huge silver plate trophy with amazing repousse scenes on the top rim. Greek key motif on the top edge. The trophy is larger in person than the photos depict!
The trophy is engraved, "SAN DIEGO SUN 7th ANNUAL SILVERGATE SWIM August 8th 1929, Won by Carl Stevenson". Carl Stevenson was a Northern California swimming star.
The trophy measures 18-1/2" tall to the top of the handles and 11-1/2" wide from handle to handle. It is really a fat trophy!
Superb condition with a gorgeous near flawless patina. I can only see a small ding on the front. It weighs over over pounds and is manufactured by Wallace.
This amazing piece could be a spectacular vase or simply on its own. Just wow!
