Huge Antique Grand Hotel Scarborough, UK Handled Bowl
This amazing large handled bowl is from the Grand Hotel Scarborough in the UK.
The Grand Hotel is a large hotel in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England, overlooking the town's South Bay. It is a Grade II listed building that is owned by Britannia Hotels. At the time of its grand opening in 1867, it was the largest hotel and the largest brick structure in Europe.
This "grande" piece could have been used to hold numerous things including a fabulous centerpiece. We've displayed it as a wine/champagne holder to depicts its size.
It measures 17-3/4" from handle to handle and 8-3/4" tall to the top of the handles. The bowl is 13" by 9-1/4". Really amazing large piece!
This has a beautiful patina with fancy handles. It's not for the perfectionist. It has areas of silverplate loss on the base and a small horizontal crack on the rim, which can be placed on the back is using as a centerpiece. Interior base has wear from use.
It is stamped, "Grand Hotel Scarboro" --it appears as if some of the letters have worn off with time. Manufactured by Elkington.
A really exceptional old piece of hotel silver from a grand hotel!
