Large Vintage Margo Alexander Oil & Silver Leaf Chinoiserie Painting
Stunning large vintage Chinoiserie style oil painting on silver leaf by listed California and Illinois artist, Margo Alexander (1894-1965).
Alexander studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and exhibited at the Golden Gate International Exposition in 1939. Subject matter is often whimsical, such as young children in colorful costumes. Prints of her work are commonly encountered, but originals are somewhat more scarce. This is also an uncommon larger piece of art.
Hard to capture the colors of this painting. In natural light it is a bit brighter than the photos depict. It features whimsical flowering branches with birds. The colors are pretty shades of green, orange, brown, grey. The piece looks really amazing in person with the silver foil background.
It has a silver leaf wooden frame that measures 50" tall by 32" wide by 1-1/8" deep.
Very nice condition and signed by the artist in the lower right hand corner.
This large, exceptional piece would make quite a statement in any space!
