Rare 1870s Tony Faust Oyster House Molded Glass Whiskey Flask
Rare c. 1870s figural molded glass in the shape of an oyster from Tony Faust Oyster House.
"From the 1870s to its closure in 1916, Tony Faust’s Oyster House was the center of St. Louis’s gastronomical and social world. Bigwigs, stars of the stage, and business tycoons staying at the Southern Hotel next door crowded around Faust’s oyster-filled tables. Every night there was a new surprise: fireworks displays on the roof; oyster shucking contests inside; Tony Faust himself appearing in costume as Mephistopheles, the feather-capped devil from the German legend "Faust."
The flask measures 5-1/2" by 3-3/4" and is in excellent condition. The cap is stamped, "Tony Faust".
A highly collectible flask!
