Rare Large Antique Hotel Ritz, Paris 18" Handled Platter, Victor Saglier
This is probably one of the most rare pieces of hotel silver that we've ever acquired!
This large antique silver plate handled platter is from the famed Hotel Ritz, Paris. It's manufactured by renowned silversmith, Victor Saglier.
Victor Saglier was a French ceramist, goldsmith and silversmith known in particular for his achievements in the Art Nouveau style of the late nineteenth century. He made, among other things, enamelled glass objects, gilded metal and numerous pieces of silverware.
The heavy platter has beautiful workmanship with a gleaming mirror-like patina. It bears the hotel's name and crest on the top of the platter. It's quite a large crest. The mounts (rims) and handles are quite ornate.
Platter measures 18" from handle to handle and 14-1/2" by 11-1/4" not including the handles. It's in superb condition with very little surface scratches a a couple of very small dings. It weighs over 2 pounds and is hallmarked for Saglier on the back.
This is an astounding, rare piece for the serious hotel collector. A perfect piece of antique French hotel silver!
