Rare 1920s Sir Francis Drake Hotel, SF, Lenox Silver Plated Teapot
This is one of the most gorgeous pieces of hotelware that I've acquired of recent. It's from the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in San Francisco's downtown Union Square. This teapot is from 1928, the year of the hotel's grand opening!
This type of teapot is quite special with a combination of Lenox and silver plate. The porcelain is a beautiful cobalt blue with a silver plated frame. What is most unusual and rare is a beautiful silver plate design that frames the spot and goes down to the base. The lid has the hotel's name and crest.
The teapot measures 6-1/4" wide from handle to spout and 4-3/4" tall. It's in superb condition with no chips, cracks or hairlines. The interior is spotless.
The underside of the lid is stamped, "Sir Francis Drake S.F. Reed & Barton Silver Soldered". Date symbol is 1928--the year the hotel opened.
Porcelain and silver plate teapots are extremely hard to find and are quite collectible.
Quite an amazing and rare piece for the hotel enthusiast!
