Victorian 9K Gold Garnet Padlock Charm/Pendant
Victorian padlock jewelry is quite scarce these days, and this piece is quite special.
The petite 19th century 9k gold unique heart/shield-shaped padlock has a gorgeous red cabochon garnet on one side. The back and front edge is has fine chased detail.
It measures a bit over 1" tall, and 1-1/4" to the top of the bale by .58" wide. Total weight is 3.5 grams.
The padlock has been tested as 9K gold and is in superb condition. The lock opens and closes nicely and securely. This piece does not open like a locket.
Rare to find one of its type. Looks so much better in person with the brilliant red of the garnet glowing in the light.
During Victorian times, padlocks indicated both love, and a symbol of lifelong commitment. Nowadays, they have become quite popular again. They are typically worn on watch chains as pendants or charm bracelets. People are layering chains in various lengths/sizes/metals, and adding varieties of charms and fobs. That look makes quite a statement. Or, wear solo for a more subtle look.
This 19th century padlock is a lovely little piece, and very close to my heart!
