Victorian 9K Gold Puffy Heart Garnet Padlock Pendant Locket
Victorian padlock jewelry is quite scarce these days, and this piece is extra-special. One of my favorite finds!
This 19th century (c. 1860) 9k gold puffy heart-shaped padlock has a gorgeous red cabochon garnet on one side, and an old photo under glass on the other. Both sides are heavily chased with fine detail.
It measures a bit over 1-1/4" tall by .31" wide and .39" thick. Total weight is 5.9 grams.
The padlock has been tested as 9K gold and is in superb condition. The lock opens and closes nicely and securely. This piece does not open like a locket.
Rare to find one of its kind. Looks so much better in person with the brilliant red of the garnet glowing in the light.
During Victorian times, heart-shaped padlocks indicated both love, and a symbol of lifelong commitment. Nowadays, they have become quite popular again. They are typically worn on watch chains as pendants or charm bracelets. People are layering chains in various lengths/sizes/metals, and adding varieties of charms and fobs. That look makes quite a statement. Or, wear solo for a more subtle look.
This 19th century padlock is a very special piece, and very close to my heart!
