19th Century Paper Mache Inlaid Mother of Pearl Writing Lap Desk

Beautiful 19th century English black paper mache writing slope/desktop with gold painted accents setting off a oval inlay of mother of pearl in the center. The ornate gilt accents and hand painting is exquisite.

The interior opens to a flat surface is lined with red velvet and includes three compartments for pens and what would have been inkwells. It has a lock, but key not included.

When closed it measures 11-1/2" long by 8" wide and stands 3" tall. Excellent condition with no major areas of wood loss, which is rare.
