Rare Vintage Blue Fox Restaurant, San Francisco Gravy Boat
From my personal collection, a handled silver plate sauce boat from the famous Blue Fox restaurant in San Francisco. I purchased this piece directly from the restaurant's auction after it closed in 1994.
The Blue Fox (now Alfred's) was once revered as a top restaurant in the United States, welcoming guests like Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Joe DiMaggio, and Marilyn Monroe. Joan Crawford was such a fan that she even stored her own case of vodka there, appropriate considering the Blue Fox was a popular speakeasy during prohibition.
This rare piece has the faint logo on the front of the iconic fox and it stamped, "Blue Fox". It is attached to an underplate.
It measures 8-1/4" wide and 11-3/4" long from the base to the end of the handle.
Bright and shiny patina with light signs of age. A quite heavy, substantial piece. Manufacturers marks have worn off.
A really wonderful piece of restaurant silver, especially for anyone that has memories of the Blue Fox or collects old San Francisco memorabilia!
