Antique Limoges Occupational Shaving Mug for a Butcher

A wonderful Victorian Limoges hand painted occupational mug featuring a bull and knives with the owner's name in gilt. This would have indicated that the owner was a butcher.

Back in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when a gentleman needed a shave he would visit his local barbershop where the barber kept each customer's shaving mug. The mug was inscribed with his name and often decorated with an image related to his occupation.

The mug is porcelain and in superb condition. Nice floral motif that goes around the back.

A wee bit of wear of the gilt on the base rim. Stamped "Limoges France."

It measures 4" tall and 5" wide with the handle.

This piece is great for the collector of shaving mugs or for someone that loves unique and whimsical pieces.
