MASSIVE c. 1900 Pair of Barbotine Majolica Applied Fruit Vases, Naples, Italy

These are the most large and extraordinary vases that we've ever come across. Photos don't do them justice. They are simply huge and make an amazing statement in any setting.

They date to the 19th century and have a beautiful glaze with applied high relief apples, cherries and leaves.

They measure 18-1/2" tall and approx. 8" wide. Excellent condition with some minor losses to cherry stems.

The Mark, a large “M” and a crown, is almost certainly from the Mollica family of Potters in Naples, Italy. La Fabricca Mollica was opened in 1842 in Naples. It was created by Giovanni Mollica. His father, Pasquale, had worked for the porcelain factory at Capodimonte, owned King Ferdinand. All this occurred before Italy became a unified country (1871). The studio relocated to Milan in the 1940’s and closed in 1978. In the second half of the 19th century Giovanni’s three sons, Ciro, Achilles and Alexander inherited the factory and worked there all of the lives. This mark was used exclusively in the late 19th and early 20th Century. The mark “Italy” suggests these vases were made after 1891.

They weigh over 12 pounds and will be packed extra-carefully in a large box.
