Rare Antique English Ironstone Tongue Butcher Display Stand

A fabulous example of a Victorian English white ironstone tongue dish.

Featuring an ornate scrolled pattern and ‘TONGUE’ across the center of the plate in under glaze black transfer print, this is an excellent example of a tongue plate, dating from the early 1900s. At the time, these plates would have been used in butchers shops to display the tongue it had for sale, which was a popular dish then, either sliced or whole. The middle section is raised to show the meat off.

The dish measures 10-3/4" in diameter by approx. .75" deep and is in superb condition.

This makes and excellent display pieces as part of a kitchenalia or white ironstone collection.
