Rare Victorian Gold Inlay Pique Brooch
Exquisite antique pique brooch dating back to the Victorian era, circa 1880.
The pique artisanship features minute bits of gold delicately inlaid into tortoiseshell, a now lost decorative art dating to the 17th and 18th century, then later into the 19th century revived and seen in jewelry.
This convex brooch exhibits a stunning floral foliage motif. It is difficult to test, but it's most likely 9K gold or higher.
It measures 1-3/8" in diameter and has a "c" clasp. Nice condition with very little gold wear.
This brooch is a wonderful example of the pique art form!
